Oliver began writing drill in 1990 for Hoover High School in Fresno, CA. Since then he has served in this capacity for many competitive groups throughout California and the United States. He has been the visual caption head and designer for Beyer High School since 1997. He held the same role for the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets from 1998-2006. In 2004, he began designing drill for the Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps based out of Milwaukee, WI, serving as their program coordinator in 2006.

In addition to writing drill, Oliver has been staging winter guards and percussion ensembles since 1990 as well. Some of the high school winter guard ensembles he has worked with or currently works with, include Redwood, Arroyo Grande, Delano, Amador Valley, Clovis East, Riverbank, and Clovis West, to name a few. A sampling of indoor percussion ensembles he has contributed to include Beyer, Clovis East, Hart, Westlake and Arcadia high schools.

Oliver lives with his finance Penny, He has 2 dogs named Zoe and Triple, a cat named Paper, a lizard named Pedro and too many fish to name.
