Fred C. Beyer High School Marcos Rivera |
Marcos Rivera was born and raised in Fresno and Clovis. He comes from a great family with one older brother. Mr. Rivera went through grade school in the Clovis Unified School District, graduating from Buchanan High School. He picked up his first drumstick in third grade, and began formal lessons in percussion in fifth grade at Cole Elementary and drum set lessons in sixth grade. At Alta Sierra Intermediate School, Mr. Rivera was awarded the Best Drummer at the Reno International Jazz Festival at the University of Nevada, Reno. In high school, he was apart of the WGI Regional "A" Class Gold Medalist Indoor Marching Percussion at Buchanan. He also was in the nationally recognized Wind Ensembles and Jazz Bands in high school and was recognized for numerous individual awards at festivals and within the Buchanan program. Mr. Rivera graduated from California State University, Fresno in May 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with instrumental emphasis in Percussion. Through his education at Fresno State, Mr. Rivera taught at middle schools and high schools in Lemoore and Clovis as a visual/percussion technician. In the summer of 2008, Mr. Rivera participated in the Olympic Orchestra in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Any students who went to China that summer may recognize Mr. Rivera from that unforgettable experience. In May 2009, he completed the intense Credential Program at CSU, Fresno with subject area in Music. Beyer High School is his first position held as a professional in Music Education.
