Fred C. Beyer High School David Flores |
Raised in the Bay Area, David Flores began his musical journey at age three when he began playing his first set of drums. The son of a bass player, he was born into the rhythm section while sitting behind his father's bass rig and his uncle's drum set. This profound introduction into the world of live music would carve a life-long path for this tireless student, performer, and educator. David is adept at playing Jazz, Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Brazilian, Hip-Hop, Afro Cuban, and Orchestral compositions. Although he is a drum set player at heart, David is also a skilled hand-percussionist. As an educator and performer he’s had the honor to share the classroom and the stage with an eclectic group of artists including: Ms. Lauryn Hill, Orestes Vilato, Donna Summer, Francisco Aguabella, Pete Escovedo, Jesus Diaz, John Santos, Karl Perazzo, Michael Spiro, Steve Turre, Peter Erskine, Bobi Céspedes, Mark Levine, Ray Vega, John Calloway, John Benitez, Rebecca Mauleon-Santana, Mic Gillette, Mickey Hart, Melvin Seals, Rusty Zinn, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and Ska Cubano. You can find David currently performing with a number of groups that are fusing different combinations of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Son, Cumbia, Reggae, Ska, Soca, and Soul music. They include Ms. Lauryn Hill, AguaLibre (formally O-Maya), Los Mocosos, Carne Cruda, Machina Sol, The Stevie Wonder Project, John Calloway and Diaspora, MasCabeza Quartet, Rusty Zinn and Rolando Morales.
